VET Sector

Vocational education and training

Over 3.8 million students receive training through Vocational Education and Training (VET) each year across a wide range of subjects. Universities

Finding your place

Each university has its own identity. This can be influenced by a number of factors including: location; prestige and reputation; the subject disciplines or areas of study available; whether it’s a research intensive institution or learning and teaching is the main focus; and of course, student services, and the mix of students and staff who go there.

Finding the right university for you will depend on what’s important to you. Does the university offer the course of study you are interested in? Are you prepared to move interstate, or do you want to be closer to home? Will you be able to get in to your preferred place of study, or will you need to do some preparatory study first to help you get to where you really want to be? We’ve brought to your fingertips, links to all universities within the Australian higher education sector. Start exploring the opportunities and possibilities to think your way through higher education.

Alternative study pathways

Same journey, different path

There are also many registered training organisations (higher education providers) that can offer a higher level of education similar to universities, such as private colleges or TAFEs, which may also lead to a bachelor degree qualification in your area of interest.

These days more and more non-university providers are gaining the accreditation to offer higher degree qualifications and vocational education and training (VET) qualifications, and are often referred to as “dual-sector” providers. There are also a number of universities that are “dual-sector” offering certificates and diplomas, as well as bachelor degrees and post graduate qualifications. Confusing much? We’ve provided a brief explanation of how the range of qualifications are ordered within the Australian higher education sector.
